What to do in Scottsdale Tasmania

Scottsdale Tasmania

In 1855 surveyor James Scott (Scottsdale’s namesake) proclaimed that Scottsdale had “the best soil on the island”. True to his statement Scottsdale and its surrounding region are a hub of agricultural activity including dairy farms, potatoes and poppies. Scottsdale is also well known for it’s hop growing industry, lavender farming and forestry commission enterprises.

The Bridestowe Lavender Farm is a gem of Scottsdale’s agricultural prowess, home to some of the world’s best lavender

Scottsdale Tasmania

Just 15km out of Scottsdale is another gem of its agricultural prowess – The Bridestowe Lavender Farm. Bridestowe is a huge lavender estate home to some of the world’s best lavender. It is open all year round but the best time to visit is during the summer, when the lavender is in full bloom. The gift shop and café are open all year, and have an extensive range of lavender products, food and drinks.

If you’re touring Tassie in a motorhome or campervan and you’re headed for the east coast from Launceston, you can take the alternative route through Scottsdale and the north-east and experience the relaxing rural lifestyle that’s in abundance in our island state.

Scottsdale is a sizeable township so if you’re looking to restock your camper with food and fuel or you want a bite to eat there’s a large supermarket and several service stations as well as takeaway shops, a pub with counter-meals, a gallery and several other boutique stores.
