What to do in Richmond Tasmania

Settled in the early 1840s, Richmond is home to the iconic Richmond Bridge, the oldest bridge in Australia. Richmond is situated just north of Hobart and was originally a police district with gaol, court house and barracks. In the 1970s Richmond began to emerge as an historically significant tourism destination and now thrives on this status.

Richmond is a wonderful historic town, home to the oldest bridge and the oldest gaol in Australia

You are surrounded by history when you visit Richmond, there is a wealth of beautiful Georgian architecture and heritage buildings as well as other historic sites including the gaol. There are also plenty of boutique shops with hand-crafted gift wares and other assorted treats as well as a great range of cafes and restaurants if you’re looking for a nice meal or a cuppa.

If the weathers nice the village green is a great place to stretch your legs and have a picnic lunch after a long drive and the riverside parklands has BBQ facilities if you want to be self-sufficient.
