Campbell Town

Located on the Midland Highway between Launceston and Hobart, Campbell Town is a picturesque historic town. Settled in the early 1800s Campbell Town is rich in early colonial history and has some beautiful landmarks and buildings including the Red Bridge, The Grange and St Michael’s Church.

To get the best experience of the town’s colonial history, the Convict Brick Trail along High Street reveals stories of the convicts who resided in the town – the builders of many of the historic buildings including the Red Bridge and the Foxhunter’s Return. The Campbell Town Museum provides even more insight into the history of the town for the history-buff.

Campbell Town is a great place to stop for fuel, a coffee/snack or a bite to eat regardless of which direction you’re travelling in. There’s a great park with public toilets located in the heart of the town opposite the shops and there’s typically plenty of parking.

Considered by the National Trust to be one of the most “substantial hotel buildings of the period” – make sure you check out The Fox Hunters Return it’s a beautiful building which is now a private residence and home to The Book Cellar bookstore. Other buildings of note are:
