The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has lead Hertz America to voluntarily file for its corporate operations to be re-organised under Chapter 11, but no Hertz franchisees are affected, nor are Hertz Europe or Hertz Australia or Hertz New Zealand.

The USA’s Chapter 11 legal process allows a company to continue operating under current management while it restructures its financial obligations. It’s quite different from Australian bankruptcy. Chapter 11 in the USA focuses on the preservation and reorganisation of companies. Its aim is to keep a business intact not close it down. Chrysler, Delta Airlines and General Motors are among those who’ve been reorganised under Chapter 11 and come out of it healthier today than they were before.
