If you’re planning to cruise Tasmania in one of our rental cars or a motorhome or campervan, then this is the end of the line! Cockle Creek is the most southern settlement accessible by car in Tasmania. It can be accessed via the Huon Highway and is about 150kms south of Hobart. The drive itself is a great way to see some lovely towns nestled in hills of the Huon Valley.
Cockle Creek is quite isolated but offers some fantastic scenery and is perfect if you’re looking to get back-to-nature. Situated on the shores of Recherche Bay and at the southeast edge of the Southwest National Park, Cockle Creek is a great place to base yourself if you’re planning a walking trip to the South East Cape where you’ll be greeted with stunning cliff-top views of the Southern Ocean and Maatsuyker Island.
Cockle Creek is the perfect place to go if you really want to escape the hustle and bustle of modern day life and just relax and unwind.
Please be aware that if you intend to enter the South East National Park you will require a National Park Parks Pass. For more info or to purchase a pass please visit the National Park Parks Passes website.
If you’d like to know more about the Southwest National Park you can visit the National Parks Website.
